The surrender of Germany took place in Rheims, France. Colonel General Alfred Jodl of Germany signed the German Instrument of Surrender. The German Instrument of surrender was the paper that officially declared German surrender. The surrenders took place in a small red schooll house, which was the headqurters of General Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Jodl, Maj. Wilhelm Oxenius, and Adm. Hans-Georg von Friedeburg were the German representatives. Lt. Gen. Walter Bedell Smith, SHAEF chief of staff was the head. There were representatives from the four Allied Powers (France, Great Britain, the Soviet Union, and the USA). Dwight D. Eisenhower was also present.
